Lets raid my dry cabi

http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2528ed.jpg

Okay i was cleaning my dry cabi as it was in a mess and well full. So i must well take this time to show my gear.

http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2488ed.jpg
It may look like ALOT, but i well most of it are not working or i rarely use them. Basically i came from a family that have an interest in photography, technology and engineering.
My dad's side used to have an engineering firm but well that story is for another time, back to the current story, All the photography equipment in the household *except My brother's Nikon P50 that i used to shoot all these* are stuffed into my dry cabi which i can say was something i was forbid to touch when i was young. *maybe due to my dad knew that i may start shooting and burn his pocket* My dad was an avid photographer back in the days. He used to wash his own films and develop them but I came along so he stopped *so as the 1980s financial crisis which killed his printing biz but that is another story*

anyway i think it was when he was in this late secondary school days (late 60s) he gotten this little German baby from someone.http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2494ed.jpg

this 1963 rangefinder, http://www.photomemorabilia.co.uk/Ilford/Sportsman_L.html#anchorSL has a dead lightmeter, but i think it still works as it was supposed to be full manual. I think my dad did say some of this army photos and photos with my mom back in the 60-70s were shot using it.

I should load up a ISO400 film and try it. it has a 45mm f/2.8 Steinheil Cassar (Optische Werke Steinheil Munchen) lens, abit foggy but still usable...

the next upgrade for he got was for their honeymoon...

The funny thing is that my dad actually sold of this camera and brought another one * the XD5* then changed his mind and brought the XD7 back from the buyer... only the 35-70mm , 2x tele, and 50mm f/1.4 and the flash was from his time... I brought the 28mm f/3.5 MC about 2 years ago when i saw the ad on clubsnap for a 28mm f/2.8 MD going at $120. well the seller sold the 28mm f/3.5 ver to me at $100 and i found out that the f/2.8 ver was going at $200 odd.

Well i been using this baby for the last 3 years and the only issue with it is that the light meter is off by 2 stops and the prism is foggy.

Not long after this camera * well 9 years later* i came along and in 1994, my dad gotten a compact film camera.

This old rollei is still working, that i found a roll of film STILL in it while i was cleaning the dry cabi... from what i remember i always wanted to play with it and the only time my parents allowed me to touch/use it was during holidays or trips to malaysia. One cool thing about it is that you can shoot panorama using it by just changing a setting and pan. No need to photosnitch them together...

My dad being a tech junkie brought the Sony P5 not long after it came along in 2001 [ whao that is a dpreview review on it ], it was for a long family trip to thailand and he wanted to save cost of buying and using film. Thinking digital was awesome. Well the LCD screen broked during the trip [on the 3rd night out of 3 weeks] so we only can check the photos using the AV cable on the hotel's TV.

This camera if not for the battery which died faster than the camera and could not be found in SG, we brought 2 spares during the japan trip back in 06 but they are dead too. so ya this camera is retired. But if it is not for it i may not have gotten my D40... Thanks to the P5 i started shooting other things than my family [ to my mom's displeasure]

from using it for school projects to shooting cosplay at streetfest in 06... My dad agreed to get my D40 in japan in late 06 as it was CHEAP.
http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2512ed.jpg

Okay it was cheaper. back before we went to japan. I was staring at DSLRs. either the D80, D40 or sony alpha 100... all above $1000...
but at the end of the whole japan trip and we endup at Yodobashi camera and saw that D40 was going at $880...

Well over the 6 months after that i did not shoot much as shit happens but well i ended up using my D40 at streetfest in 07, and well flew from there... maybe due to the help of my school's photography club and well at that time i was the youngest few cosplay photog that have a DSLR... I saved for my SB800 and by dec 07 i brought it. [ well for EOY]

Had my first photoshoot after that. Not long later my Uncle drop off his tokina 80-200 which has an awesome pattern on the lens. It is usable *used it for gigs* but well it is VERY VERY soft. During this period i was poison by the school's D300 and it's assortment of lens and thank god i was the logistic head in 08 onwards... no change of gears during this period as i was playing with ALOT of film and shooting with borrowed equipment all the way till Nov 09 when i had enough and gotten the D300s.

I actually planned for it since i was poisoned by the D300. the 35mm f/1.8 actually came 1 week eariler than the D300s as i had a photoshoot. and well i was eyeing for a prime for a long time.

The same uncle that drop off his 80-200 with me, also pass me his F4 and FE2 since his son was a canon fanboy. He is back in USA and you can check his portfolio here.

The FE2 have a jam shutter, i can't totally close... while the F4 due to the battery was still in there for the last few years in the camera box and not in a dry cabi, the corrosion went inside and maybe have damaged the circuit board... I plan to get it fix soon but going repair shops to repair shops, all say it is not worth the repair...

The sigma 18-50 f/2.8 was on impulse. as my 4 year old 18-55 kit was dying. * auto focus slow and buggy *

what is next on my NIKON list? some FX primes... like 85mm f/1.4 or 105mm f/2.  and SB 900... * coz my SB 800 is also dying*

what are left in my collection are my toy cameras.

my gakkenflex which i built in 4 hours after 6 months of waiting and hunting for it.
the esprit one comes with a waterproof casing,
and i got 2 more toy film cameras which are no where to be found.....

so that is all for my gears..

how i pack them is another thing...

http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2519ed.jpg

on the top drawer are all the equipment that i use.  i currently using 2 x 8gb SD, 2 x 2gb SD, 1x 4gb CF, 1 x 4gb SD [spoilt need to repair]. for film all in the fridge.

http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2522ed.jpg

on the 2nd drawer are all the stuff i rarely use like the spoilt stuff and a whole load of weird stuff like some cheapo useless videocam that my dad got on impluse, a  5.6" media player which i use as a field monitor with AV input. and well tapes

  http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2523ed.jpg

back in secondary school i used to make my own mixtapes with my MD player... man i hated those days as i have to record directly using audio input instead of these days data transfer MP3...
What are missing here are the 2 damn old floppys.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/twitpic/photos/full/240812870.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0ZRYP5X5F6FSMBCCSE82&Expires=1297625910&Signature=GZUXuO9KAT5zZ8eeHjvD80MmBvs%3D

so ya i have that huge floppy to the 3.5" one to CD to VHS to VHS-C to MD to VCD to DVD to 3.5" ext drive to 2.5" ext drive to a 3TB NAS.

http://togusachan.net/images/DSCN2525ed.jpg

on the bottom section, there are nothing much except for my films, and my dad's stuff, which will be good if there is a zombie apocalypse or 2012 is really the end of the world... that FM radio set is also a transmitter which i guess is kinda illegal in sg i think....

well that is a tour of my dry cabi. anyone want to upload theirs to show?

It is the time of year that i earn money from just visiting relatives... but for this year it is they come visit us.. * coz i stay at my grandma house.*

on another random gear note. I just got a 2nd hand Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. fine it is not that sharp but it does its job.
